On August 11, 2023, while on normal patrol along the Shemori-Yandoto road in the Marke general area, Sector 1 Operation Hadarin Daji troops (OPHD) stationed at Forward Operating Base Mada in Zamfara state encountered an unknown number of armed bandits.

The bandits and the army battled in a firefight for a number of hours, but due to the troops’ superior firepower, the bandits retreated in disorder into the nearby forest.
The OPHD troops immediately pursued the bandits aggressively into the forest, forcing them to flee with two villagers who had been saved from the bandits unharmed. and found the fleeing thieves’ two working motorcycles.
They were recognised as Dr. Hassan Abubakar Augie, a former provost of the Federal ‘Technical’ College of Education Gusau, and his son during an interview with the people who had been rescued. The abductees were snatched from his home late last night by armed bandits, according to preliminary investigation, and were transported into the forest before the prompt arrival of forces who saved them.
As a result, the forces maintained a high level of security and patrolled the area as the two victims were reunited with their families amid celebration.
